Every September The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation hosts the Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. In honor of this event, OBABL has published a Salute to the CBC and Top Black Lawyers With Influence. Inside you’ll find profiles of the 55 hired guns along with those of legal Hill staffers and, of course the CBC Members.
Our editorial team spent months researching the Capitol Hill and the legal experts in its orbit in an effort to determine what legal staffers were indispensable to their Member of Committee. We also compiled a list of the top black influencers. To develop this list, we combed the web and listened in on private conversations at cocktail parties. We noted the names mentioned by hill staffers and lobbyists alike. We distinctly got the impression that some of those listed here are quite happy to remain anonymous, subscribing to the philosophy, “If you have to ask, you don’t need to know.”
The ALC is the the premier conference on legislative and policy issues impacting the African-American community. It is attended by thousands of national and international thought leaders interested in learning about the challenges and opportunities facing Black America and the Diaspora.
During the day, ALC attendees attend public policy forums, community education workshops and policy briefings. During the evening, a bevy of buffets, cocktail receptions, and parties entertain guests. At the center of it all are the Congressional members, their staffers, and the professionals whose business is influence. Many of these individuals are black lawyers, and On Being A Black Lawyer (OBABL) is proud to salute them.
