Dr. Artika Tyner on Building the Next Generation of Leaders

Dr. Artika Tyner is on a mission with Planting People Growing Justice (PPGJ) to train the next generation of leaders, and they are starting with knee children! The organization is launching a new children’s book project in order to support students in discovering the leader within and making a difference in the world around them. Making a Difference: The Story of Miss Freedom Fighter, Esquire will be published in September.

The book’s main character, Justice, is a passionate reader and loves history. In her Grandma’s library, Justice discovers her life’s calling when she learns about justice trailblazers who paved new inroads to freedom and liberty. With each chapter, Justice’s inspiration grows and at the book’s end, she decides she’ll become a lawyer.

The book will come to life as Miss Freedom Fighter, Esquire hand delivers the book to 1,000 students across the globe. With each visit, she will inspire young people to discover the leader within through the pursuit of academic excellence and the unveiling of each student’s limitless potential.

Real life freedom fighter, Dr.Tyner serves as the Associate Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion at the University of St. Thomas, from which she received degrees in law, public policy and ultimately, a doctorate in leadership. Under her leadership, PPGJ was named a 2017 American Small Business Champion by SCORE and Sam’s Club.

“By raising the question, ‘What is in your hands to make a difference in the world?’ says Dr. Tyner, “I have challenged people around the world to join with me in serving as leaders and change agents. I felt compelled to create a new youth education curriculum in order to educate, equip and empower the next generation of leaders. This is the beginning of planting seeds of social change.”

PPGJ is building a global learning community by challenging ordinary people to embark on the journey of leadership development and serve in the global village. PPGJ also serves as a learning hub for bringing leaders together to share their passion for social change and build strategic partnerships in order to make a lasting positive impact on the community.
